Wash the strawberry thoroughly, remove the leafy top and stem, and cut the berry into small, puppy-sized pieces. Whole strawberries can present a choking risk, particularly for smaller dogs and puppies. The AKC recommends cutting strawberries into small pieces, and they can even be mashed or pureed for smaller dogs.
For a young Cocker Spaniel puppy trying strawberry for the first time, you could cut off a very small piece and offer it by itself.

How Many Strawberries Can a Cocker Spaniel Puppy Eat?

Can Cocker Spaniel Puppies Eat Frozen Strawberries?

They can make a refreshing treat on a warm Indiana summer day.
For a puppy, however, we would not hand over a large, rock-hard frozen berry. Cut the strawberry into appropriately sized pieces before freezing it, or allow it to soften somewhat before offering it.
Another fun option for an older puppy is mashing a little fresh strawberry and freezing a small amount into a puppy-safe enrichment toy.
Can Puppies Eat Strawberry Tops and Leaves?
It is better to remove the green stem and leaves before giving strawberries to your puppy.
The tops are not considered the desirable part of the fruit for dogs and can be harder to digest. The AKC recommends removing the stems and leaves before serving strawberries.
There is no real benefit to giving your puppy the top anyway, so simply remove it when preparing the berry.
